Are eyelashes attractive?

This is a scientifically proven fact that a baby's features, such as big eyes, induce feelings of love and attraction in other adults. Studies have shown that large eyes are more desirable in women. Because long eyelashes accentuate your eyes making them look bigger, which is a symbol of youth that is often associated with greater attractiveness. Which leads us to say that long eyelashes are more attractive to both girls and boys.

Having dark and luscious eyelashes is a highly sought after beauty trait by many, so much so that the size of the false eyelash market is projected to reach $1.6 billion in 2025. Psychologists explain that long eyelashes, whether in men or women, create a contrast between the eye and the eyelid, drawing attention to the last two. However, the subjects' preferred eyelash length differed when rating male and female faces, suggesting that the phenomenon has more than a biological basis. In other words, participants preferred slightly longer eyelashes in women and shorter in men, suggesting that gender norms played a role. Long eyelashes are also an indicator of health, an extremely important factor in terms of biological attraction.

The general findings suggest that there is an optimal length at which eyelashes are perceived as more attractive, which has an adaptive evolutionary basis. While some researchers have suggested that eyelashes are perceived as more attractive the longer they are, long eyelashes can also indicate diseases, such as immunodeficiency. Even so, eyelashes have managed to become one of the few types of female body hair that falls into the category of “good”, emphasizes rather than “bad”, removes one and, for centuries, we have been imagining the presence of long, dark eyelashes to represent female beauty at the highest level. Interestingly, participants rated the most attractive eyelash length differently for men's and women's faces, suggesting the interference of a cultural gender norm.

They were shown a series of photos of the same face with eyelashes of different lengths, and the results seemed to indicate that the ideal length of the eyelashes is approximately one third of the length of the eye. However, more recent research points to the idea that long eyelashes are valuable because of the illusion they create of wide eyes and gazing eyes. As unfair as it may be to some people, biology and evolution play the most important role in determining whether someone is attractive or not, which is why long eyelashes in men are considered an attractive trait, even masculine.
